GT vs CSK IPL 2025: Ayush Mhatre was severe on fast bowler Arshad Khan, scoring 28 runs off him in an over during CSK’s match against GT on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Chennai Super Kings’ star opener Ayush Mhatre was at his absolute best during their clash against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The youngster scored 34 runs off 17 balls, which includes three fours and as many sixes, and gave the visitors a flying start.
During the second over, when MS Dhoni, won the toss and chose to bat first, Mhatre went all guns-blazing against fast bowler Arshad Khan as he scored 28 runs in a single over, where he smashed three sixes and two fours. Mhatre took Arshad Khan to the cleaners and piled pressure on the bowler.
But just as he was trying to score big, Prasidh Krishna took his wicket by bowling a slower ball as Mhatre mistimed the ball and smacked it towards Mohammed Siraj, who took the catch while standing at mid-off.
Mhatre ended his campaign in the ongoing season by scoring 240 runs after playing in seven matches at a staggering average of 34.28, which also includes his highest individual score of 94 runs. He came in as a replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad in CSK’s playing XI and he would also be leading India’s U19 team from the front during the multi-format series, which would be held next month.
Fans in awe of Ayush Mhatre
The CSK fans heaped praises on the youngster for going all-guns-blazing against Arshad Khan. One fan reckoned that Mhatre does have a lot of potential since he is a huge fan of Rohit Sharma.
“Ayush Mhatre, what a great talent. Unreal hitting bro. You’re destined for greatness if Rohit Sharma is your idol,” a fan had written on social media.
Another fan also emphasized that both Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi would be opening the innings for India during the 2027 ODI World Cup.
“World Cup 2027. India’s inning is opened by Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi” he had written.
Some even called Mhatre as Rohit Sharma’s mini version.
“Mini Rohit Sharma,” the fan had written.
