India’s six-wicket win over Bangladesh in the 2025 Champions Trophy marked Rohit Sharma’s 100th victory as captain, helping him join Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Mohammad Azharuddin in the elite list.
India captain Rohit Sharma on Thursday became the second fastest batter after compatriot Virat Kohli to complete 11,000 runs in One-day Internationals during their Champions Trophy clash against Bangladesh.Rohit is only the fourth Indian and 10th batter overall to reach the mark in the 50-over format.
India’s six-wicket win over Bangladesh in the 2025 Champions Trophy on Thursday (February 20) helped Rohit Sharma achieve a century of triumphs as captain in international cricket. He is only the fourth Indian after MS Dhoni, Mohammad Azharuddin and Virat Kohli with 100 or more wins as captain across the three formats.
Rohit achieved it in his 138th match as India’s captain. The Men in Blue bowled Bangladesh out for 228 runs in the first innings and chased it in 46.3 overs, with six wickets to spare.
Rohit now has a win percentage of over 72% in international cricket, which is the best among all captains with a tenure of more than 22 matches. In comparison, Dhoni’s win percentage was 53.61, Azharuddin’s was 47.05 and Kohli’s 63.38. He has already led India to a T20 World Cup title and an ODI World Cup title and this match showed that India are well-prepared to go as far as possible in his first Champions Trophy as captain, too.
“Very hard to say that (on the pitch playing slow) after just one game. You play the conditions and try and think about what you do. We assessed the conditions well as a team. You are bound to be under pressure in a tournament like the Champions Trophy,” Rohit said after the match, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
“Very happy for him (Shami), long time waiting. We know what he brings to us. We need guys like him to stand up when we need… We know the class that Gill has, Shouldn’t surprise anyone. It was good to see him bat till the end. May take him for dinner tomorrow,” he added.
